Frequently asked questions

Are soy candles vegan?

Soy Candles are Vegan. So many types of candles use animal products! Beeswax comes from the hives of beeves, tallow comes from the fat of animals, and some wax even comes from whales or dolphins. Soy candles are 100% vegan and do not require any animal products in their production or use.

Are scented candles toxic?

It all pretty much comes down to one ingredient. Most scented candles contain paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum, coal or shale oil. When it’s burnt, paraffin wax releases toxic compounds into the air, including acetone, benzene, and toluene – all known carcinogens. So not only are they damaging the environment but our health, too. Soy wax candles are a great alternative as they don’t contain toxic pollutants and produce significantly significantly less soot than a paraffin product. These candles do not burn as hot as paraffin wax candles, but they burn slower and so will usually last around 30-50% longer.

Does soy wax hold scent as well as parraffin wax?

Soy wax is known to be more 'picky' over which fragrance oils that work well.
Fortunately, we regularly weed out any of the scents that don't pass our high standards of hot and cold throw (that's the candlemakers term of how well the candle smells both hot and cold). If the scent doesn't work with soy wax, it's not on our list.

What can cause frosting and why does it affect soy candles?

Frosting is actually a unique and natural effect of using vegetable type waxes, especially soy wax. The wax is trying to return back to its natural form and as a result it begins to crystallize. It doesn't affect the performance of the candle in any way and also means your wax is 100% natural.

Why soy wax?

Derived from the soybean, soy wax is a hydrogenated vegetable oil that turns to a solid at room temperature. Soy wax contains nothing artificial, which makes it a better alternative to old-fashioned paraffin wax, which is made from petroleum oil and produces harmful by-products when burned or melted. Soy wax is non-toxic making it better both for the environment and your health!

Where does your soy wax come from?

The soy we use in our waxes is sourced from North America and Brazil from purely ethical and non-genetically modified sources. A full supply chain audit has been carried out and only ethical suppliers have been chosen that do not contribute to de-forestation. And what's more, after you've finished using our candles, the containers can then be fully recycled or re-used around the home. Winner.
